What does the dot in the beis mean? How about the dot in any other letter?
Dear Chana,
A dot or a “Dagash” means additional emphasis or energy is required. Thus, according to the laws of Dikduk (in most cases) the first letter of a word—if it is one of the seven letters בג״ד כפר״ת—has a dot.
As the tzemach Tzedek explains, since “all beginnings are difficult,” It requires a dot, additional motivation.
