“Ain’t Mama happy, ain’t nobody happy.”

I heard this saying years before I became a mother, but now I can attest to how true it is. Somehow, when I am in a good mood, the kids behave better, the house is more organized, and life is more manageable. When I give my sluggish-mood-producing thoughts free reign in my head, I’m inviting disaster.

There is a command to serve G‑d with joy. It is not always easy, but the fact that this is a command indicates that it is indeed possible to fulfill that command. When we set aside time to contemplate how many blessings and kindnesses G‑d has showered upon us, we are filled with gratitude, faith and joy. It is this increased bitachon, trust in G‑d, that is an antidote to worry and sadness, and a vehicle to draw down more blessing.

Thoughtstream: Today, I will put aside time in my day to meditate and be grateful for all the blessings in my life.
