We are the poor man of the Baal Shem Tov’s tale.
We are poor of vision, because our eyes are blind to wonder.
We are poor of heart, because we cannot delight in the ecstasy of that wonder.
We are poor of soul, because this materialistic world has robbed us of any sensitivity to that which can neither be seen nor touched.
And because we are the poor man, therefore we will not be satisfied with wonder, with ecstasy, or with anything spiritual or even divine. We will only be satisfied when we have the King alone.
Nothing else will placate us. Nothing, until, in every corner of our world, we find only Him.

We Are Spiritually Poor Initially we were smothered by His Light of love and kindness.
The sensation of shame that we are opposite to His nature caused the 'tzimtzum' or the restriction of this sublime Light.
The sensation of emptiness propels the direction of humanity to reconnect with His Light. Hence our endless consumption of the tiny pleasures of this material world.
Soon we will exhaust this pursuit.
Then we will move in a new direction:
To fill our lack we need to discover how to become like Him - to rework our egoistic nature to match His.
To the extent we succeed He will allow the Light to fulfill us until we dwell again in 'Ein Sof' enriched by the Light with no restriction.
Then we will be spiritually rich. This is what the Books of Moses explains to us: the process to each this eternal reward.
