Space versus Time
When we are intolerant of others taking space, it is our animal nature displaying itself; just watch nature shows and / or observe the wildest animals in nature.
But it is not enough to be tolerant with space; it is when we are generous with our time, we are at our best, as human beings, transcending space. I think this is part of what the Rebbe calls Compassion, but I might be mistaken... Reply

"the entire universe to myself" is probably the scariest notion ever. Do we really desire that? I don't think so. But then, this is really about how we each function in our private personal lives. We are each a microcosm. A cell in the "world-body". Maybe the idea that we are meant to learn something from everyone, can help us here, to have more compassion. Having humility. Where there is arrogance, G-d says He will not be. Reply

To be tolerant means in my opinion to see the whole creature of a human, with all his facettes of his personhood. But I have a question: What about to see and recognize all those individuals and they have no emphaty for you? They absorb you. Am I committed to become absorpt? I dont think so. Reply

I clearrly undenstand the power of tolerance spreed by Abraham himself. But in today reality we even if try nowhere we will not find Abraham. Reply

Zero Tolerance For Intolerance (RE:: Elias, Houston & Anonymous, NJ) We need to understand the origins of the Jewish people. Abraham was merited the discernment of the two forces in nature: altruistic and egoistic. He gathered all those that chose to live under the rule of "love thy friend as thyself". Then Moses re-assembled those descendants with the tendency to activate that spark. They ascended above their difference and hatred, their 'Mount Sinai' (root of word 'Sinai' means 'hatred'). They became the Jewish nation.

We urgently need to re-establish this brotherly love that once bonded us together as "one man with one heart", aspiring to feel one with G_d's nature. This is our role, called for at this time when the egoistic nature has reached deplorable levels of hatred, divisiveness and intolerance. The world desperately needs our guidance and we need to fulfill our role as a 'Light unto the nations', and unite the world as one family

Intolerance Very true! All beings have the right to exist because G-d created us in His image, and the rest for our joy, comfort, and love. Just as the AlMighty does not tolerate evil done to His creatures, so must mortal feel the same. But we still have a lot to learn, don't we? Reply

I have a person in my life that I have a lot of problems tolerating their behaviors and their gruffness when they talk to anyone. Most people call him a miserable person. I believe Hashem has kept him in my life as a challenge to my own nature , which is very tolerant of others, usually. I find myself actually shaking in anger as he rants and raves about different things that he deals with. Also I feel confused and saddened by my response to him. My Emunah is strong but I yield to my emotions when I'm around this person for an extended period of time. I pray to be redeemed daily. Reply

INTOLERANCE "To care for each other simply because that “other” exists."
Indeed - this is the opposite of intolerance.
I am usually a very tolerant person. However, recently I have become less so. Why? You watch the news on TV, you read the local newspapers - and 90% of the contents are about murder, rape, theft and all the other crimes that man commits daily. It is very difficult to be tolerant about all this. I continually ask myself that if G-d is really all merciful and mighty why does He allow this to continue. Of course, the common reply is that this is not G-d's doing, but man's. One prays daily that this will all stop but it seems to be getting worse and worse. Again, man's doing. So what can one mere mortal e.g. myself - do about all this? Yes, I can be a decent human being and do whatever I can to help where I can, but does this help the overall scenario as I stated above? The old cliche - "a journey of 1000 miles begins with one step" - springs to mind - but is my "one step" enough??? Reply

Unfounded Hatred The common vessel of humanity's soul was incapable of receiving all the Light of God's abundant Love at once. The solution was for G_d to break up this soul so that each piece could receive the Light in small doses first.
This caused the opposite sensation - separation, hostility, intolerance. This is our unfounded hatred towards each other. Our task is to reconnect to all the other parts - in this way each bond is filled with this special force of love until the whole soul is reconnected with love in all our relations towards the others.
Kabbalists found that when they attempted to unite in their group (at leas 10 needed to form the soul structure) they had to force themselves to 'block' their evil egoistic inclination. Under this condition they would attract the light that would provide them this bond of love - then they would sense the spiritual world. Reply

Intolerance and Fallen Sparks A line in Fallen Sparks made this concept come alive for me; the metaphor is " ... if it is a grand symphony, the musicians have lost sight of their conductor, each playing his melody on his own time. As though an explosion had occurred, blowing apart the pieces that were meant to create a harmonious world, creating instead a cacophony of melodies, a chaos of fragments."

The metaphor led me to thinking about Klezmer where the melody jumps from instrument to instrument - each instrument and its musician are allowed to shine; at the same time the result is harmonious.

What better way to exemplify caring for others while still having one's moment of having the universe to oneself? Reply

As a small child I am oblivious to the needs of others, just "I" centered. I do see the world as mine.
The logic structure "if A then B" DOES NOT necessarily mean that "if B then A". Careful about extending the "logic flow".

Truly: what is negative experience? How do we charge an experience with negativity? how do we interpret ideas of "God" who is indeed 'really running this universe' with 'our' nemesis, evil?
Shakespeare had his ideas: Iago & Othello again; but what's good for the goose & not necessarily 'good for the gander' & can they really understand each other?

: Being a sincere 'servant of Ha Shem, i think, definitely involves a conscious decision: full immersion into a ideological mikvah (purifying vessel) water, oil or chanakah light; because, negative experience for those souls who are closed to HIS LOVE is sometimes their unique (re)membering process ... widowed or fatherless...'hearing impaired'
Feeling, keeping and kindling the Memory of Divine Love is difficult for survivors of war or catalysmic climate changes.

Intolerance This week has been a wonderful display of people caring for me simply because. With a simple breakdown of my car, my husband having walked away from his responsibilities, the outpouring of love and help truly shows me the love our Creator intended. Intolerance synonym? To my naive mind, the intolerance of which you wrote bears an uncanny resemblance to arrogance, as you noted in your "explanation", and may be a development from that state of mind. While we are here to help bring HaShem's light into this world, I do not perceive that it can be done if we are enwrapped in the self-focused image of ourselves as the bearers of the truth and light of heaven; such is not indicative of the humility required to illuminate the world. I may be wrong, as I often am, but lights are often uncovered little by little through the daily support and help we bring to our families and those we know; in a loving and sharing posture having nothing to do with being "chosen", but more to do with being a humble servant of the way of HaShem. Let Him take care of the Big Bangs, I'll merely try to illuminate the lives of those around me if and when I can, gently and caringly. Reply
