There are dark jewels in this world that can be salvaged, purified and taken as precious bounty for the good.
And there is darkness itself, the absence of light, that must only wait its time to expire.
How can we tell between them?
If the darkness fights back, there is hope.
It means there is something there worth fighting for.
The “darkness” in this world stems from the illusion that we humans are separate entities with our own will to do what we want to do. It is true that we can choose between various pairs of opposites, which choices cause happiness or misery in the end. The inner aspect of all this is a dead-end walk based on ignorance of anything else.
As for the “Light”, the only source is the will of the Creator, because He is the only Doer there is. Everything else is mere chaos. So those in the darkness just try whatever they can think of to force their lives to get whatever they think they want; of course that constantly varies. As they develop their understanding, their darkness dims behind some inner light, until they themselves are fully lit.
So to let go and make room for the will of the Creator is what we call Emuna. Our fears disappear, and we go free.
