This is a subject that I, too have not understood. I am grateful for the opportunity to explore this. I have heard the expression to "Live in the world, but not be a part of it." On one hand, I do perform mitzvot for folks who are ... very different. I do not accept what they do, or the choices they make, but I imagine that by staying true to the spirit of Torah, with kindness, that I can be a representative of the relation that G-d has with people who have chosen Him. But, it gets strange when we are called to separate ourselves from evil of the world. There is so much of it, so many people who infect the world with ugliness, that I do not care to encourage it, by being kind to those who would prefer to twist and pervert nature itself into sitra achra. I continue to be kind to those who are very "confused", only because, at one time or another, I too, had been a person to upset G-d's world, and I am appreciative that G-d has allowed me to return to him, regardless. I understand the need to be tolerant. However, I must disagree with your statement that intolerance lies at the core of evil. one only need to read Psalm 1 to know that we are to not to associate with the evildoers that live around us. In fact most of Scripture teaches that we are to not only to hold ourselves separate from them, but to actually resist them, judge them for what they are--enemies of the Almighty--not worthy of our fellowship. I know this sounds harsh, but the reality is that tolerating evil in our midst for the sake of being kind and not judging others because they are different is not what G-d desires for us (His children) to do. Intolerance is about the same as tolerance. You accept someone based on your bias or you don't. There is always a condition in the acceptance. Reply

If I see only me then how will there be room enough for any one else in my mirror! Each day that I wake up and go to my mirror to apply my makeup will this new face make me feel better about myself both inside and out. Or is it just a disguise of the real person who’s staring back at me in my mirror. Love yourself for who you are and not who you can become. When you look in your mirror see yourself first and who you represent. Are you a working mother and a wife? Showing kindness in an unkind situation is the appropriate response. Reading the comments here, this has been interpreted as love. Kindness is a part of love, just as severity is part of love.

There are many types of individuals whom believe their right to; life, space, resources and so forth is greater than that of others. This is why we live in a world of social inequality.

You need Adonai to truly love the other person who is giving you every reason to be mean to them... There are so many people today so completely consumed with self that they don't even realise there is an entire world around them. They need the most love, even if they are the least deserving. This is a difficult one to live with, as those filled with wanton hatred that you shower with love may not come around as Mordi pointed out. So I perform wanton acts of love in the world, for all who are capable of receiving love. And for those who can't or won't, I do acts of love that don't diminish my being.

I've been in too many positions where I realize I've been an enabler, not a healer.

Evil - Manifestation of Disconnect between us (RE: Wanton Love: Lois, CA) The Creator withdrew His Light that once connected us in one perfect harmonious soul - the soul shattered. Each part began to perceive itself as separate, individual entities. Egoistic intentions to receive all for the self developed and grew until we find ourselves using others for self benefit and harming others to the extent of repullsion of others for no valid reason other than to swallow the entire world for his service.

The Kabbalists experienced this 'wanton hatred' even when they tried to connect as a group. Only by recognizing this hatred and desiring the Light to correct it, were they able to draw the Light to reconnect and attain a higher level of unity and revelation of spirituality. Then they would feel hatred at a higher level and ask the Light to help overcome. This is a process all will need to deal with until the end of correction.

G_d wills us to consciously attain His Nature of unconditional Love. Then His Light will flow between us again as one soul. Reply

There are childhood emotional issues which cause this issue...

so sometimes it is lack of love, not hate, a chip out of love Although i am not sure what the word wanton means? ..it seems that this behavior is sometimes int he category of egocentric not able to think of others and also cognitively seeking to match as same and not accept different as matching. It feels like hate and disregard but the root cause is emotional fear and seeking identity problem for the individual not the emotion of hate but lack of love and a cognitive problem ?

Education and psychiatric work leading to knowledge of Hashem's love for each person is a possible cure. Reply

Wanton Balance, Trust IN G-D. " It is balanced and cured by wanton acts of love and kindness ", Sometimes...sometimes they have a hole so wide and deep that no hatred could ever fill, no acts of disdain could ever fulfill. But the most important factor here is for us to know and realize that we must never fall victim to their self punishment which easily transfers to our being.
We must be sure that we have from the beginning given from the heart, and understand that when we STOP FUNCTIONING or start to remember what we were like in the past. Then and only then must we find our exile. In cases like this we must not only look at it as day or night. But as the seasons.
I hope this helps those who are going through this with children and young and adults. Remember that they only have the permission that we give and allow them.
