You have a good question. G-d is the only true being. Everything else is contingent on His will that it be.
The higher worlds reflect that truth, that there is truly nothing else but G-d.
So, the heavens—meaning those higher worlds—can be called a nothingness for two reasons:
One, because we cannot fathom what it is like to be there, so for us they are a nothingness.
And second, because they express this truth that all is nothing before G-d, while our world just says "Here I am."
