Not everything in life is given to us by the good or even the greatest people on earth or from the heavens above, sometimes we can learn the greatest lesson that turns out to be a gift from the least expected person or power that crosses our path. To find the most precious jewel sometimes we have to take our shovel and dig day an night then still nothing shiny and bright may not be found; the jewel we were looking for was actually hidden from our sight. To want something and not know what you’re actually looking for makes it very difficult to even begin to explore. However, you might be very surprised what may turn up so never never give up. You must keep on searching with your shovel in hand and sooner or later you just might come out ahead. Reply

Balaam I think the donkey deserves as much credit as Balaam. This was divine intervenrion, but my point is that Balaam had been given a great gift, prophecy. This was acknowledged even before Balaam had left his tent. Why was he given such a great spiritual gift? He was a pagan and yet his power was a spiritual one. The Holy One endowed him with this, it was not magic. And even with this great power he would not forsake his pagan ways and was killed by the Israelites for it. Strange indeed. I am a storyteller for children and this is one of my favorite stories. The children love it when the donkey rebukes Balaam! Reply

I don't agree. I would not give Balaam too much credit. God and our Patriarchs has uttered blessings to us all throughout the Torah. Reply

Balaam Ironic, that Balaam is the one who blessed the Israelites. This was a Divine gift, that whoever he blessed was blessed and whoever he cursed was cursed. Maybe that is why we have the admonition to leave judgement to G-d. Reply

But G-d put the words in Balems mouth. So how could the words be any than perfect ! Reply

A mine ral speaks Who would create the evil inclination for the correction of judgment other then the Mighty One. As He would know the hardness of the diamond that dwells within the man. For this mine_ral, rough and not changed, rests the potential of revealing that of "beauty" within the eyes, for they who see its blessings of above and below. Reply

And yet...It gives me an insight into G D's ways thru' which He expresses His desire. No one too pure or too impure.. But Rabbi, Balaam was honest to a degree when he insisted only on speaking the Truth as G D would have him do it. G D considered him worthy of his mission..Thank you Reply
