What does fasting on Yom Kippur achieve?
That even our physical bodies can feel the precious closeness of this day.
Yom Kippur is such a holy day, the body receives life from fasting.

When we starve our ego from nourishing off negativity towards others and seeking self-benefit, then we can connect with love towards others. This action infuses the holy network between us with life. We can all open our hearts to one another. We feel the pulse of G_d amongst us.
The holy system is alive when we don't nourish our ego.

Hi Liat, welcome to the Daily Dose of Wisdom. These are pithy, small bites. You take a dose and chew on it for the rest of the day. (Subscription box below.)
But you’re right—I should make a whole essay out of this.

Fasting on Yom Kippur
There are some insights that one might have here.
Ain Od Milvado, or there is only One. The Creator first projected what we call Mind, and which to us is empty space. Into His Mind He constantly projects imagery of nature and various souls, which all connect to Him.
These souls wake up and think of themselves as living separate lives in the bodies they inhabit, developing from infancy to adulthood. They don’t realize that they are identifying with a projection like a movie in a theater, which disappears when they die (i.e. awaken.) From here we must gain insight until we realize that the Creator and the Soul are one.
In the episode of the burning bush He told Moses to tell the family that Ehyeh sent him. That is a major hint of the inner development of the soul in the body, until we realize truth and let go of our illusions.
Fasting helps us to release our illusions.
