There is always hope.
Even when you mess up, you have not wrestled control from Him. After all the dust has settled, where you are and how you are is just as He set the course at the outset of creation. Higher. Closer.
You may not understand, you may not be able to see, but nothing can interfere with that plan. All must go higher and only higher each day.
And so, there is always hope.
the image shows a river and the waters that are lively and stream towards the sea.. So not going upwards but downwards.. When river reaches sea sun comes, and vapour goes up, forms clouds, from them the water will rain down again... When tree wants to reach with her/ his branches high in the air, tree must be rooted deep inside the Earth.. be able to bend and to stand... So not all must go higher and higher, as long as we live on Earth... Like the Rebbes reached out horizontally too, and by that giving man feet to stand upon, and spirit to be uplifted..Courage... Both is needed, the going down and the reaching high.. rising.. climbing? Movement and Rest ... Reply
hope as was explained to me several times, yes, G-d knows/has it planned out; BUT that doesn't change the fact that we have free will. this confused me, but now feel why? one has nothing to do with the other -- how could we know what G-d has planned? so that's why do everything! and that's why pray! at least that's how i look at it. and having that choice, i'm going to feel hope - for health, for safety, for Israel, the world. there's always something to be hopeful about. Viktor Frankl would be proud of you.
Frankl reputedly went through 4 death camps and survived. He became a doctor in the USA. His conclusion to surviving the Holocaust was to keep your hope alive.
He wrote a book on the subject, the size of a pocket book and so his message is clear and concise and invaluable.

G_d expects us to correct our attributes and develop senses of the soul to match His.
Your only free choice is which path to take:
It is said those who come to be purified are aided with the method of gradual correction. This is the path :"I will hasten time".
Otherwise the forces of nature will pressure us with troubles and collapes as the world experiences now. This is the path: "In due time".
In this world we forget the ultimate goal and direct our focus on chasing after transient pleasures.
In the end, we will all attain the corrected vessels to receive the Light of Hhis goodness prepared for us.

So it's absolute predetermination? Nothing we can do can change it if it was already decided at the time of creation - so why do anything? Certainly why pray? He's already done it all and its just running on auto-pilot?

Sorry to interpret it sadly: An entire life of hope is not exactly good, I think. Sometimes it's fundamental, having hope, but too much hope maybe implies that the person`s consciousness is in a bad situation for a long time. Reply

Hope For What? Do we hope for matters pertaining to this materialistic/corporeal world - like happiness, health, love, prosperity, success, power? How does chasing after these dreams fulfill our spirit that is eternal?
or
do we wish to discover the 'higher' system - the system above our material intellect and emotions? How does this system govern us? Where is it leading us to?
- How do we elevate or spirit that is eternal?
When we recognize that our corrupt nature leads this world to despair, when nobody has any solutions then those with the method to discover that higher world will be a light to all humanity and help them exit this fake world - A world that disappears after it has served the purpose of enabling us to understand creation and acquire the attributes of G_dliness . Then we are worthy to be partners with Him.
This is our hope and our destiny when all appears futile and empty in this temporary dwelling.
