When Greek philosophy arrived in Ancient Israel, many Jews embraced its ways.
But somehow, the more they reasoned, the more decadent they became. Until they turned viciously against their own people.
This is puzzling. How is it possible that reason and knowledge could lead a person to bigotry and hatred?
And yet, it happens repeatedly throughout history. It continues to happen to this day.
Because, for us human beings, like every other creature on this Earth, our personal agenda and desires will always override the objective truth.
That is why wisdom must be like a flame, ever-flickering upward, struggling to escape its material bounds.
The human mind, to know truth, must first know that there is an infinitely greater mind beyond itself.
