There has to be something in me to react to something in them.
When my spouse upsets me I ask HaShem, is that what I do that upsets you? If she ignores my good advice I can only ask Hashem, what good advice of Yours am I ignoring?
Since awareness cures, when someone rebukes me, I like to be aware of anything that could possible b in me that keeps me from receiving the grace of our eternal uncreated father who dwells in the ultimate non things defining all things. Reply

If I may, I want to give an example of this in my own life: A younger relative, a woman, who I initially wanted to like, but did not, falls into the category that you speak of in this teaching, Rabbi. The coldness between us was mutual, yet it continued to bother me over the years. The question in my own mind was always a “why” that I could not comprehend.
As the years past, and in my own journey in the experience of life, it finally came to me: In some ways we are indeed “mirror images.” Qualities in myself I did not want to admit, I saw in her, and I judged her, not myself. Reply

It’s quite possible that the Mirror deceives the persons also… If an individual sees in Mirror, he gets convinced himself by looking his face as beautiful or smart and even it would be attractive to him… On other side, there might be a possibility that that the same face or image would be unattractive ..
That is to say or to conclude that if we think good the output or reflection will also be good, if we think it in negative , it may also reflect as bad or ugly….
The wisdom from this beautiful saying’s is that let’s we think always good of others and restrain from speaking ill of them …

I have one question: If someone shows me that he felts not accepted in his inner child and is so a mirror of my inner world, that I am neglected in my inner child, because I was isolated in my childhood: How shall I help this person to be accepted, if there is no chance for my inner child, to be accepted of them, they ignored it? My neglected inner child cant give this person the attention he needs, even he want it, because a neglected child cannot care for an adult, he needs to stay in his comfort expression to be accepted as he needs to identify himself, as he is used to since childhood. So who is it to make the first step to give some help? Reply

When I look in a mirror my left and right hand sides are reversed. This is how mirrors work. I don't see any analogy to this of how we ourselves are seen by others and I find this analogy to be misleading. We may resemble each other, but only externally and to a limited degree. My twin brother (who lives in Bnei Brak) is a good example of this. He is a very orthodox Jewish person and I feel that I am only slightly a follower and believer of our common faith. (Also I dislike the expression "religious Jew", either we are Jewish or not.) Reply

Mirrors Before commenting, I read "Here's Looking at You."

My initial thought was an expression I have used for years - "if you spot it, you got it" followed by a gesture of index finger pointing at another which leaves 3 fingers pointing back at me. How could I recognize something if it wasn't true in me, had been true, or is something I am capable of doing or feeling? The same concept applies to positive elements.

My first D'var Torah I ever wrote was on this subject - it is far too long for this limited space or I would share it.

In the case of alcoholism, just in case the question by anonymous was real and not an example, AlAnon offers support and a chance to work on oneself instead of putting all the focus on the alcoholic; it also offers a way to change's oneself. IF the AlAnon program is worked, many of the underlying characteristics that one spots in a alcoholic are also true of the AlAnon member - after all, alcohol abuse is but a symptom of the disease. Faults, one persons faults are another person's strengths. Someone stubborn is also determined. I go to church to be with people of Gd, not to be torn apart by a flock of buzzards who find fault in me unless I pay them bribery money to treat me with common decency. Reply

Contradiction Say someone has a fault that you dont, which I think you and I can both agree happens all the time.

Say your best friend is an alcoholic for instance.

That fault bothers you all the time.

Therefore, you are an alcoholic, or have some similar fault?
