Chesed (translation - Compassion/Kindness) one of the most important words in the Jewish liturgy. Reply
"reprisal"/"retaliation"
have my whole life believed good will win over evil; talking with G-d and praying would make a difference. as the years have gone by, still believe it. the america i love - and my parents loved, along with the freedoms has deteriorated to hate, a race war, and no one to back up the good people who care. wouldn't you say there comes a time when kindness needs a little help???
personally, i retired from the police department (not a police-person) certainly not a place in the USA where many Jewish people work -- BUT i honor them for protecting us.
reading the comments of unbelievable hate, always blaming others, is this just another current holocaust?

Light and Darkness These beautiful words will be on my sign when I join those counter-protesting the hatred of the Westboro "Baptist Church" in Seattle on the 19th. I've had them on a magnet for some time, but they were (I believe falsely) attributed to Menachem Schneerson. I do my best to live by them. Reply
May the Heart of man be the will of G-d.amen. Rabbi we thankit u.You encourage us to be ruled by G-d and not satan .It is righteous to serve G-d rather than be a slave to the devil. You encourage us to denounce sin and do godly acts.G-d's omnipresence sees our actions and His omniscience calculates its merits ."G-d watches every step men take .There is no darkness dark enough to hide a sinner from G-d." It is noble, good and kind to react in this manner
However be prepared for an attack by those you help. I followed your advice of doing the right thing and i did; the price I'm paying for my actions make me think how wise I was to take on people with influence and no scruples.

Reprisal Thank you, Rabbi Freeman, for this word of truth and sanity. Reply
It still would be nice to see it in the orginal language. There are those of us to who are interestied in the esoteric.
Yiddish was spoken in my husband's home when he was a small child and while growing up.. It would be another way for us to study together.
Do kindness beyond reason for example. I would study Chesed and Gevurah, delve more into the Omer, extrapolate from that phrase, etc.
Thank you

Re: Translation These are not translations--most of the time. They are paraphrases, condensations, presentations, meditations... which is what the Rebbe asked us to do with his teachings in order to make them accessible. The original form, in Yiddish, with many esoteric references, needs more than translation in order to achieve that goal. Reply
Translation comment It would be interesting to have the original text side-by-side with the translation/rendering. Also, it would be important to compare multiple translations/renderings of this important teaching. Reply
It is important to the individual’s success
That He/She at least holds it in mind that everything is in G-d’s hands and will.
If you are afraid of your future you are not trusting His intentions.
We are like that because we identify with our bodies, and think we have power to control.
Our knowledge is not that great though, and we can’t do anything we want with our imaginary ego.
That is why we are forced to trust G-d until it is automatic for us.
