I think the confusion is looking at the word/zero as nothing. Correct me if I am wrong, but zero is not a number but a placement or location to which numbers 1-9 are added to. If we look at the number zero its a circle, 360° - complete or infinite and we are a placement in the infinite, which makes each individual to have worth and value whether small or great. Our present body ability to withstand the presence of the infinite is limited [i.e. Moses seeing the glory of G-d on Mt. Sinai, Jacob wrestling with G-d, Daniel falling prostrate before the angel of G-d]. But we are reminded, by these examples, that when HaShem wants to connect with us for a special mission that it's done in a way that our bodies and mind can contain the connection w/o us transitioning into the world beyond. Our being here has purpose and value because we occupy zero space and everything HaShem made is meaningful. We are driven to find that meaning that is placed within us and connection.

I’m confused about the two middle sentences
How can they both be simultaneous?

“The capacity...” —this is speaking of a person who has the capacity for bittul.
Someone who feels his only worth is in the space he fills—by asserting his existence, his opinion, his will and his control—such a person will not be able to experience bittul, because a being cannot deny its own existence.
But a person who knows that he is essentially worth something, because he has a neshamah, a divine spark within, he is capable of surrendering his space, his opinions and his control before that which is greater than him.

Now why should anybody wish to bitul or delete his/her nature? Only if you are suicidal, which makes this subject of an unfotrunate kind.
