This letter was sent to R. Yaakov Katz of Chicago, one of the initial supporters of Lubavitch activities in America.

B”H, 10 Nissan, 5711

Greetings and blessings,

I assume that you will be coming here for Pesach with G‑d’s help. Then I will have the pleasure of talking things over with you at length in person. I hope that your family will make satisfactory arrangements for Pesach and I wish you a kosher and a happy holiday.

I am surprised that the money from Mr. Zacks has not arrived yet. Certainly, you will inspire him to act quickly.

As I communicated to you by phone, our representative in Europe, R. Benyamin Gorodetzky, arrived [here] a few days ago. He brought a detailed report about our work in Europe and, in particular, in North Africa. The work is progressing with — may there be no evil eye — extraordinary success. Nevertheless, unfortunately, our financial situation is under great strain. This is particularly true since the Joint [Distribution Committee] reduced their subsidy for our work.

Therefore, I would especially like to know [the nature of] the situation regarding the loan from our friend Mr. Yosef Robinson which is connected with his participation in the expenses of our work in [North] Africa.

I hope that, with G‑d’s help, when you come, you will bring good news with regard to concrete action.

With blessings for a kosher and happy holiday for you and for your household,
