Greetings and blessings,
I was happy to be informed of the good tidings that a son was born to you; may this bring you good fortune.
I am sending my blessing that you bring him into the covenant of Avraham our Patriarch at the prescribed time, and raise him to study Torah, marry, and perform good deeds amidst both material and spiritual prosperity.
May the mitzvah that [the Jewish people] accepted with joy1 infuse joy into your dwelling. Note our Sages’ comment (Kesubos 8[a])2 and what is stated in Os Chayim VeShalom, sec. 265, subsec. 27 and subsec. 29.3 See also Moed Kattan (9a): “Happy that they derived pleasure...” and the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch, Mahadura Basra, the conclusion of sec. 4, which states: “The beginning of the entry [of the holy soul] is at the mitzvah of circumcision.” Since it is the beginning, it must be carried out with happiness, so there will not be grounds for a great protest.4 [Moreover, circumcision is] comparable to a sacrifice ([see] Zohar, Vol. I, p. 95a) which must be brought willingly.5
With blessings of Mazel Tov, Mazel Tov,
Menachem Schneerson
