This letter was addressed to R. Aryeh Leib Kramer, who served as the director of the Lubavitcher Yeshivah in Montreal.
B”H, 1 Adar I, 5711
Greetings and blessings,
In response to your letter of the 28th of Shvat in which you inform us that you thought of inviting the communal leader R. Moshe Morgenstern as the guest speaker for the annual dinner of the yeshivah and you ask my advice about this. Similarly, you ask for a blessing for success in your efforts.
It is proper for you to invite that communal leader.
May it be G‑d’s will that you succeed in your efforts both in a material sense and in the spreading of the wellsprings of Chassidus outward.
I have already said several times that, in my opinion, you have restricted yourselves in four limited cubits [of space]. (A double entendre is intended.)1 When you spread your influence in the city and expand to wider circles of influence — at least slightly in the beginning — expanding the mediums and means of expression employed, additional lights will be drawn down as a result.2 As these descend lower [until the material plane], this will lead to more money for your appeal. Simply said, you will gather more funds. And this is a mitzvah which another person cannot discharge for you — as it is your duty— or [accrue the] merit [designated] for you.
With blessings and with greetings to the entire fellowship,
Menachem Schneerson
