B”H, 12 Teves, 5711,
Brooklyn,
Greetings and blessings,
In response to your letter of 2 Teves which shares the news that, with good fortune, your daughter, Malka Yehudis, gave birth to a daughter in a good and auspicious hour. Behold I am sending my blessings of Mazel Tov! Mazel Tov! May her mother and father raise her and [prepare her for] Torah study, marriage, and good deeds amidst prosperity.
Undoubtedly, you named her at the earliest possible opportunity. It is surprising that you did not inform me of this. For there is a well-known directive from my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, הכ"מ, based on an event that occurred concerning the directive of the Alter Rebbe to the Mitteler Rebbe not to wait until Shabbos, but to name a daughter on the day of the first [possible] Torah reading1 in contrast to the statements found in some texts recording customs2 [that suggest] waiting several days.
I conclude with a blessing that you derive satisfaction from your granddaughter and from all your descendants in material and spiritual matters. May you always, at all times, bear only good tidings,
Menachem Schneerson
