B”H, [the day of] the fast of the Tenth Month,
May G‑d speedily transform it into happiness and rejoicing, 5711, Brooklyn

You certainly received my letter [sent] yesterday. Enclosed is the kuntres for the 9th of Teves1 which was just now brought from the binder.

In response to the telegram concerning your health: According to my opinion, there is no need to get excited about the matter. One must act according to the instructions of the doctors, since “the Torah has given a doctor the potential to heal.”2 Undoubtedly, you will follow the doctors’ instructions. However, in my opinion, it is necessary [for you] to be even more careful in the observance of the three study sessions that are relevant for every person that were established by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe,הכ"מ: a) the daily portion of Chumash together with Rashi’s commentary; b) Tehillim, as divided according to the monthly cycle, c) and Tanya, as divided according to the schedule published in the Moreh Shiur and HaYom Yom.

Before sleep, you should study — reading quickly [and] not in depth — one of the sichos or maamarim of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe,הכ"מ. The quantity is not important, but you should finish a subject. I am certain that after [doing] all of this, you will notify [me] in the very near future that you returned to your strength and carry out all your activities with peace of mind and peace of body.

Yesterday, when I was at the gravesite of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe,הכ"מ, I mentioned you, [requesting] a blessing.

With greetings to your wife, as our Sages say:3 “We inquire about the welfare of a woman” and I await good tidings in the near future.
