By the Grace of G‑d
28th of Marcheshvan, 5725 [November 3, 1964]
Brooklyn, N. Y.
Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter of the 26th of Cheshvan with the enclosure. I will again remember you and the others mentioned in your letter in prayer at the holy resting place of my father-in-law of saintly memory, in accordance with the contents of your letter. As I have written to you many times, and this is a great principle in the Torah, which is particularly emphasized in Chassidus, it is necessary to "serve G‑d with joy". According to the Shulchan Aruch (Orach Chaim, Sec. 231) it includes every aspect of the daily life, as is written, "Know Him in all your ways". This means that even the matter of Teshuva, which you mention in your letter, has to be with joy, as explained in Chassidus. And there is good reason to be filled with joy, inasmuch G‑d has been kind enough to illuminate one's mind and heart so as to see the need of doing Teshuva, and G‑d has promised that Teshuva is effective.
For you, in particular, it should be easy to develop a feeling of joy, because you have seen so many times how your increased Bitochon and Simcha has brought you Hatzlocho materially and spiritually.
I was pleased to note that business has improved. May G‑d grant that you should use your income on good, healthy and happy things, connected with Torah and Mitzvoth.
We are about to enter the auspicious month of Kislev, with its auspicious days of the 10th and 19th of Kislev, and soon after - Chanukah, all of which make it a month of Nissim, Geulo and Simcha.
Wishing you a happy month of Kislev, and hoping to hear good news from you
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
