Spreading the Light

Bread, water, wine, and oil represent various dimensions in Torah.

Of these four, it is oil that represents the deepest dimension of Torah, and the one associated with the Alter Rebbe’s arrest and imprisonment in Czarist Russia.

It serves as no surprise then that his liberation occurred on the nineteenth of Kislev, just in time for Chanukah, a festival which also celebrates a miracle involving oil.
