To establish a connection with the Creator, I must connect with His 'heart' and 'mind'.
The straps tied around the left hand symbolize my desire for the light of mercy (Hassadim) to fill my heart to acquire His quality to love of others.
The box between the eyes symbolizes the desire for reception of the light of understanding, ability to 'see' or perceive His thoughts (Hochma).
Through the tefillah we symbolize our heartfelt request to tune into His heart and mind. His feelings and thoughts. I express my desire to reunite a creature with it's Creator!
