At another time, in another place, when people sinned, they fasted and cried and beat themselves until they would never sin again.

In our times, that is not the path.

In our times, even if you’ve fallen into the deepest, darkest pit, pick yourself up as though nothing happened.

Don’t beat yourself over what you’ve done. Don’t waste a second to think, “Who am I? What am I?”

You’re as worthy as anyone else. On the contrary, the One who made you admires you now even more; you who have risen beyond yourself and your failures.

The Rebbe’s private response to Rabbi Daniel Meyers, 1960.
