Four Epic Moments From the CTeen Shabbaton
This past weekend, 5,000 Jewish teens from around the world gathered for a Shabbat of inspiration, Torah study, connection and Jewish pride. Here are our top 4 moments from the program:
From Gaza to Times Square
At the post-Shabbat event in Times Square, the crowd roared a thunderous Shema Yisrael, the declaration of faith. They were led by former hostage Segev Kalfon, who, deep in the dungeon tunnels of Gaza, vowed to one day declare his Jewish faith in the face of his cruel Hamas captors.
Bondi Heroes Share
The teens also heard from their peers from Bondi, who shared how they chose faith over fear and beauty over bitterness. The crowd cheered when Priva Schlanger, whose father was killed in the attack, shared her message of positivity.
Strong Jewish Teens
One teen shared how he chose Shabbat over his chosen path as a professional swimmer, another shared how she realized that she could not be in a relationship with a gentile, and a third told about how he made the decision to put on tefillin and then went on to help others do it too. They were joined on the stage by a surprise guest: a Mexican native who’d been taken hostage in Gaza on October 7.
The Epic Havdalah Ceremony
Every year, the teens look forward to the moment when Havdalah is (symbolically for most) made in Times Square, demarcating the end of Shabbat and the start of the new week.
New Short Film: “The Joshniks”
Honoring Rabbi Yehoshua B. "Josh" Gordon on his 10th Yahrtzeit
Very frequently, the team at Chabad.org receives a startlingly similar message. It usually reads something like this: “I’ve been learning with Rabbi Gordon every morning for months. I feel like I know him. I just looked him up, and I’m in shock—I had no idea he passed away years ago.”
This week marks the 10th yahrtzeit of Rabbi Yehoshua B. (“Josh”) Gordon. Yet, the confusion is understandable. For hundreds of thousands of students worldwide who log on to Chabad.org and a cluster of Chabad.org apps to study Chumash, Tanya, and Rambam, he is still very much alive.
A new documentary released this week by Chabad.org, The Joshniks, explores the unique story of the continued impact and legacy of Rabbi Gordon. While Rabbi Gordon's classroom is global, the film focuses intimately on a community of learners in Port Washington, New York. It captures the story of people who never met him, yet live and learn with him every day, proving that his teaching—witty, clear, and personal—is eternal like the Torah he teaches.
Today, we invite you to join and begin studying with Rabbi Gordon daily at Chabad.org/RabbiGordon.

Watch: 6 Epic Stories Told at the Conference
This past Sunday night, 5,000 Jewish women leaders and guests from around the world gathered for the gala banquet of the 35th annual International Conference of Chabad-Lubavitch Women Emissaries.
Throughout the evening, many stories were told. Here are six that will bring tears of joy to your eyes.
Australia: “This Gave Me Strength to Protect Kids Under Gunfire”
As the world was reeling, trying to make sense of the horrible massacre on Bondi Beach over Chanukah, we were taken by the brave 14-year-old Chaya Dadon, who was shot while protecting younger children with her own body. The child of Chabad emissaries to Sydney, she spoke at the conference, sharing what inspired her at that moment. She was joined on stage by Priva Schlanger, whose father, Rabbi Eli Schlanger, was killed trying to stop the terrorist.
Hungary: “I Rediscovered My Hungarian Grandma’s Judaism”
Budapest native Tzivia Myers grew up fascinated by her grandmother and her small circle of Holocaust survivor friends. One day, her grandmother told her about an old synagogue that had recently been reopened by an energetic young Chabad couple. She attended services and was hooked. Today, Tzvia and her husband direct a Chabad House in Szentendre, a beautiful town outside of Budapest.
Israel: “I Fought Against Chabad With All I Had”
Today, Anat is a Chabad emissary. Years ago, she was active on the Israeli left, protesting anything that smacked of religion—including the building of a Chabad center in her hometown of Modi’in. It took exposure to Tanya to show her the beauty of Judaism. Years later, she would meet the woman she fought tooth and nail, sitting next to her at the conference.
Tanzania: “The One Man Who Refused My Homemade Challah”
Every Friday, Chani Aziza distributes Shabbat care packages to Jewish people in their adopted hometown of Dar es Salaam. There was one man who consistently had his secretary refuse the packages. When Chani did not back down, the man ended up sneaking into the kitchen in the middle of the night to celebrate Shabbat, and his life changed forever.
Venezuela: “They Confiscated 76 Etrogim In the Airport”
Mushkie Levinson is a third-generation Chabad emissary to Caracas, Venezuela. Even though the community is smaller than it once was, it is home. She shared a fun anecdote about how they rescued 76 etrogs that were confiscated by customs officials. She also talked about how the community has remained tightly connected through immense upheaval.
Berkeley, Ca.: “He Was Almost Going to Take His Life”
Miriam Ferris is the longtime Chabad emissary to Berkeley. A young Jew once shared that seeing a Shabbat table through an open window had stopped him from taking his life in a public park. She knew exactly whose table it was. It was hers!
