Two States of Being

The soul of every Jew is an “actual part of God” to which God wishes to grant the ultimate good. This unparalleled opportunity for metamorphosis is possible only when the soul descends into a body, into an environment which is hostile to spirituality.

A noble prince who finds himself in captivity will do everything in his power to retain his self identity. He will always be recognized as the son of a king, regardless of the external circumstances that surround him. The same is true of the soul; paying no attention to the negativity that surrounds us, we need to constantly strive to elevate it further, until the speedy arrival of Moshiach.
