A Neighbor’s Influence: Likutei Sichos vol. 33, Bamidbar sicha 2

Our Sages say: “Woe to the wicked and woe to his neighbor” in reference to the tribe of Reuven being affected by Korach’s rebellion. A closer look at three different sources for this teaching, offers three ways to understand a neighbor’s impact.

in response to Anon:

My thinking is that nowadays, when people's homes are much more private than back in shtetel days, your "neighbor" doesn't have to mean the next house on the block, but rather the people you associate with. So the lesson from this teaching would be to choose carefully my business associates, employer/employees, social media friends and feeds, frequent the shul and chabad house rather than the local bar, etc. Influence is shared in these ways nowadays, much more so than your actual neighbor. (I address this point briefly at the end of the class when we discuss the sicha takeaway.)
