The Previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak, compared chassidic teachings to pearls and coal. Pearls, he explained, are found in the depths of the sea, while coal is found deep in the earth. The light of chassidic teachings helps us refine “the garments of the soul,” which are our thoughts, speech and actions. But in today’s day and age, the Rebbe explains, much more is required. |

Awesome teaching! "The sea represents the hidden world where Godliness is revealed". Amen! You must be there to find it. It reveals the depth of the Torah - looking below the surface to find the meaning in HaShem's language which is the language of mysteries. The sea also represents humanity and our natural lives, for we are the fish that live in the sea and are always dependent upon the ruach of HaShem's revelation to sustain us. We find the pearl when we find the secret meaning in the darkness. To be ready for Messiach we must put on this deeper understanding, for He lives in the understanding. We must repent for not desiring and walking in His garments which are that deeper understanding.of the Mitzvot.

is there a reason you translated "margulious" as pearls and not gems in this sicho?

"Margolios" can refer to both gems and, more specifically, pearls. Since here the context is that "margolios" are extracted from the sea, the term was translated as pearls.
