Why didn’t G-d create us to enjoy gifts given to us freely?

Man as Creator

Disc 23, Program 89

Event Date: 11 Nissan 5732 - March 26, 1972

By nature, man derives true satisfaction only from something he has worked for. Therefore, G-d created the world in a way that every person must work to enjoy its rewards. But G-d created man’s nature in the first place. Why didn’t He create us to enjoy gifts given to us freely without the need to “deserve” them and exert ourselves for them?

If everything were simply handed to us, we would never be any more than recipients, “created” beings. G-d wishes us to become, like Himself, “creators.” When we contribute our own energy improving and increasing physical and spiritual goodness in the world, G-d not only blesses our efforts, He takes us as partners and co-creators along with Him in all of creation.

Being a man of the creator also means following the instruction of Hashem as he only gives a task that can be completed. Reply

There is a significant difference between work and creation. This latter my require less physical effort but it does need greater amounts of thinking. And this kind of thinking which includes logical deduction can be more tiring that if one were to do a normal amount of physical activity over the same time. However we gar exhausted from the creation due to the associated emotion with the feeling for what we have achieved. Reply

This relates to how I feel tired after making art, despite not physically exerting myself very much. Thank you! Reply
