Disc 129, Program 513

Event Date: 12 Tammuz 5737 - June 28, 1977

The twelfth and thirteenth days of Tammuz mark the release of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, from Soviet imprisonment, which was the result of his efforts in strengthening Torah and mitzvah observance among Soviet Jewry.

His imprisonment was not so much because of his teaching Torah to adults, but for teaching Torah to young children. He called for self-sacrifice for Jewish education, for it creates the means for revoking the decrees and difficulties which may face the Jewish people, as is evident from the verse, “From the mouths of babies and infants you have established strength.”
