I got 9 out of 10 correct. I got #5 incorrect. I should have known better because I had read about her name a few minutes before I took the test. Reply

I took the quiz about Bityah. My score was 10/10. But going back to read the content of the articles on the backs of the questions, surprised me.
I am talking about who that pharaoh was in the second book of Torah and the first chapter. It is stated “the new king knew not Joseph”. That is clear, so I am wondering why there are opinions about True clear statements of God’s Word.
I hope I am not offending anyone or stepping on toes. But when someone comments on a truth, I have to find out if I am misunderstanding something.
Thank you for your patience with me. Reply

A lot of commentaries explain that verse to mean, that this "new" king is actually the same one.

9/10 So after not remembering ever hearing the name Bithiah! I was very reluctant to start the quizzes! However after scrolling down further! I realize that it must be Pharaohs daughter! Sorry I am Gentile! so I am not familiar with that name! But what do you know! I manage to pull out a score of 9 out of 10! I got question # 2 incorrect! The pronunciation of her name! I am very happy with my result! Thanks again Rabbi Posner! I get to learn a lot! doing these quizzes! I am sure the next time I see the name Bithiah! I will not forget that name! May G-d bless you and your family! Shabbat Shalom. Reply

Strictly speaking Bithiah is the Egyptian princess who married Mered of the tribe of Yehuda recorded in Divrei Hayamim. Equating her with Pharaoh's daughter who raised Moshe is Midrashic aggadah of the type that equates lesser-known individuals with more well-known ones for the purpose of fable. There are several names recorded for Pharaoh's daughter in texts from antiquity, such as Merrhis / Makri, Tarmut / Thermusis, Shipor, Asiya / Amesses daughter of Muzahim / Mephres ... and all these are recognizable as garbled names for the figure known my modern historians under the name Hatshepsut. (Maatkare, Udjrenput, Hatshepsut, Amunkhnemet daughter of (Djehuti)-mes-akheper-(kare). The name Bithiah has been noted to be similar to the last part of the name of the historical princess Nefru-bity who was actually the sister of Hatshepsut. Reply

Esther Tzfat May 9, 2026
in response to Chayyim:

When you use the word “fable” what are you referring to? The book of Chronicles is part of Tanach, and it’s not a fable. It’s part of Torah, which was given to us by Hashem on Mt Sinai. Reply

Good Evening,

[9/10]. Bithiah's name was not mentioned until 1 Chronicles 4?! I took it for granted that her name was mentioned in Exodus. Reading the Torah is like having a family reunion. We re-acquaint ourselves with family history, family members' names [or name changes], their name meaning, their connection to each other on the family tree, their characteristics, and significant roles in history. A very nice and informative quiz.

Thank you, Reply
