The author now turns to discuss how a person is supposed to have bitachon regarding matters in the third category—matters that affect a person’s social interactions:

However, the explanation regarding the proper bitachon in the third category— which is comprised of those matters that pertain to his wife, children, members of his household, relatives, friends, enemies, people whom he holds in high esteem, acquaintances, as well as superiors and subordinates from different classes of people—the proper way to rely on G‑d regarding them is as I will relate:

אֲבָל פֵּרוּשׁ הַחֵלֶק הַשְּׁלִישִׁי, וְהֵם עִנְיְנֵי אִשְׁתּוֹ וּבָנָיו וּבְנֵי בֵיתוֹ וּקְרוֹבָיו וְאוֹהֲבָיו וְאוֹיְבָיו וּמְיֻדָּעָיו וּמַכִּירָיו, וַאֲשֶׁר לְמַעְלָה מִמֶּנּוּ וַאֲשֶׁר לְמַטָּה מִמֶּנּוּ מִכִּתּוֹת בְּנֵי אָדָם, אָפְנֵי יֹשֶׁר הַבִּטָּחוֹן עַל הָאֱלֹהִים בָּהֶם כַּאֲשֶׁר אֲסַפֵּר,

Members of his household. This is referring to servants ( Pat Lechem ).

Wife, children, members of his household, relatives, etc. The author is speaking about the emotional challenges that a person can feel from relationships, be it loneliness from being away or not having family, or fear and anxiety from enemies ( Nedar Bakodesh ).

Bottom line
Connect with G‑d at moments of loneliness.

A person cannot escape from one of the following two scenarios: 1) Either he will be estranged, living alone, or 2) he will live amongst his family and close ones.

וְהוּא שֶׁאֵין אָדָם נִמְלָט מֵאֶחָד מִשְּׁנֵי דְבָרִים: שֶׁיִּהְיֶה נָכְרִי, אוֹ שֶׁיִּהְיֶה בְּתוֹךְ מִשְׁפַּחְתּוֹ וּקְרוֹבָיו.
