wow..Very interesting... 600,000 over 40 years means that 40 Jews a day had to die. Any interpretation of these numbers anyone? (How terrible that we didn't ignore Korach, may we ignore men such as Korach in our lives forever.)
Every year on Tisha B'Av all those who had turned 60 that year would dig a grave and lay down to sleep. In the morning they would not wake up and others would come and fill in the grave. This lasted until the year when the decree ended, they lay down to sleep - but woke up the next morning. Thinking they had miscalculated the day, they tried again the next night. On the 15th of the month - when the moon was full and it could no longer be mistaken for earlier in the month - they realized that the decree was over.
