There is a mention of the High Priest being required to bury someone even while performing his duties on Yom Kippur. I can only think of 2 possibilities about whose corpse he might find, either an unfit priest that had gone before, likely his Father, or a complete stranger, an impostor. Is this addressed anywhere? in response to francis L kinney:

Maimonides - Rambam, as well as the Talmud in Nazir give an example of this exemption when he finds a body on the road: "When a priest - even a High Priest - encounters an unattended corpse on the road, he is obligated to become impure for its sake and bury it." This includes even if the High Priest was on the road to perform the service in The Holy Temple on Yom Kippur - he must attend to the deceased first when there is no one else. You can read about this further at Rambam Hilchos Avel 3:8 at chabad.org/1181884 Reply

Thank you for responding, it was a very helpful article. I misunderstood, and thought it was referring to a priest finding a corpse inside the Temple, or a priest that entered and never returned. Reply

I have two questions:

1) if the daughter of a Cohen marries a man that is a Cohen, then the brother of this woman technically would be permitted to go to her funeral? Correct? Because my understanding is that the issue is that the woman loses her Kehunah status once she marries a non-Cohen. Therefore, she’d be one of the 7 people that a Cohen would have to to attend their funeral.

2) if a Cohen marries a divorced woman, he then loses his Cohen status and can’t perform the Cohen duties. What happens if they get divorced? Does he get the Cohen status back?

Thank you! Reply

Hebrew Thank you so much for your lectures. It has had an unexpected advantage for me. The Synagogue I attend has been providing classes in Biblical Hebrew but they may be cancelled when the current Rabbi leaves and a new one enters. However, I have been attending these classes for about a year and a half and have a fairly good grasp of it. Your lectures have helped me broaden my vocabulary and, I believe, if I continue to listen, I will learn even more. So... Even if the classes are cancelled I can continue to learn with you.

I have also heard that Chabod is coming to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Do you know when and where? Reply
