Why Did the Levites Care?
Why Did the Levites Care? While the Egyptians enslaved and persecuted the Jews, the Tribe of Levi was given much more freedom than the rest. They were actually allowed to study Torah and engage in holy pursuits. Moses and Aaron who were Levites as well, could have simply ignored the plight of their Jewish brethren and not been any the worse off. But in the end, it was specifically their concern that helped bring the Jews to redemption.

This teaches us an important lesson as well. It can be much more comfortable, it can even seem more productive, to focus on our personal growth and development. But Moses and Aaron taught us that your fellow’s suffering, is actually very much your own. |

While I believe the Jews were able to retain their tribal identities while slaves, and that Moses, Aaron and Miriam were among the greatest prophets, could they have had access to the Torah to study it at this point?
Please help me understand, what Torah did the Levites study while in Egypt? What were their holy pursuits? Please share the scriptural reference.
Its my understanding that the Torah was not written at the time of being in Egypt. So how did the Levites study something that was not yet written. Much of the Torah came through Moses after the Exodus. So how did they study something that was not even spoken of till after the Exodus?

Regarding the question of what it means to have access to the Torah before it was even given, please see How Did the Torah Exist Before it Happened? and this class Mitzvot Before Sinai
