A Career in Torah
Disc 192, Program 767

Event Date: 18 Iyar 5738 - May 25, 1978

We see in human nature that when you decisively resolve that for a particular amount of time, you’re completely dedicated to a specific thing – whatever it may be, you can indeed succeed. The same should be true of Torah study.

Practically speaking, your Torah study should reflect a “career in Torah.” If the phone rings, you don’t pick up – it’s like answering on Shabbos, G-d forbid! When studying Torah, you’re in another world. So if someone is distracting you, answer them with the respect they deserve, making sure not to offend, but the point of your response must be that you are studying Torah and nothing else matters right now, other than Torah.
