Of all the Rebbes of Chabad, the fourth Rebbe, Rabbi Shmuel, known as the Rebbe Maharash, was especially known for his supernatural approach to worldly matters – as his famous adage goes: “The world says if you cannot crawl under an obstacle, then try climbing over it. And I say, L’chatchila Ariber! – in the first place go over!” 13 Tishrei, Rabbi Shmuel’s yahrzeit, is a time when every Jew is expected to take up the Rebbe’s approach of “Lechatchilah Ariber” and make it his own. No matter how little you know about the Rebbe Maharash, there is certainly no doubt in what areas he wanted this approach to be implemented: certainly in all areas of Torah study, charity and Jewish observance; and especially now, with the approach of the Festival of Sukkos – the “Festival of Joy” – in providing others with all their holiday needs, including the opportunity to take the Four Species and to dwell in the sukkah. |
