Why is the phrase "be strong and courageous" repeated so often in this Haftarah? In verse 12, why doe Joshua only address half of the Manasseh tribe?
It is based on the blessing Moses gave Joshua towards the end of Deuteronomy.
Half the tribe of Menashe resided on the eastern side of the Jordan, outside of the official boundaries of the Land of Israel, so they required an extra blessing.
