We find that ten different words are used in the Holy Tongue of Scripture for the matter of bitachon , which corresponds to these ten levels: mivtach (trust), mishan (support), tikvah (hope), machaseh (refuge), tochelet (anticipation), chikui (awaiting), smichah (reliance), sever (dependence), misad (help), and chesel (assurance).
וּמָצָאנוּ עִנְיַן הַבִּטָּחוֹן בִּלְשׁוֹן הַקֹּדֶשׁ מְלִיצִים בַּעֲדוֹ בְּעֶשֶׂר מִלּוֹת כְּנֶגֶד עֶשֶׂר מַדְרֵגוֹת הָאֵלֶּה, וְהֵן: מִבְטָח, וּמִשְׁעָן, וְתִקְוָה, וּמַחֲסֶה, וְתוֹחֶלֶת, וְחִכּוּי, וּסְמִיכָה, וְשֵׂבֶר, וּמִסְעָד, וְכֶסֶל.
May G‑d, in his mercy, place us among those who trust in Him and give themselves over to His judgment, both in public and in private. Amen.
הָאֱלֹהִים יְשִׂימֵנוּ מִן הַבּוֹטְחִים עָלָיו, הַנִּמְסָרִים לְדִינוֹ בַּנִּרְאֶה וּבַנִּסְתָּר, בְּרַחֲמָיו, אָמֵן.
The Gate of Trust has been completed for the G‑d Who is the Last and the First.
נִשְׁלַם שַׁעַר הַבִּטָּחוֹן, לָאֵל אַחֲרוֹן וְרִאשׁוֹן
The impediments to bitachon:,
- Lack of understanding of G‑d’s mercy. ,
- Ignorance of the Torah, which teaches how to have bitachon. ,
- Propensity to think that the most immediate cause is the true cause.
