“The world, and all it contains,” states the Psalmist, “is G‑d’s." It would seem that the Eighth Commandment is superfluous—since in the final analysis, it’s not possible to steal anything.

A poor farmer desired to steal corn from his neighbor’s field. Before the father began, he carefully observed his surroundings, looking in every direction to ensure the coast was clear. His son cried out, “Father, there is someone watching!”
