Only 2/11, the worst I've ever gotten on Chabad.org quiz (I think). Oh well, you win some, you lose some. Reply

Hello, Raymond [2026]

I hope that you have started to study Maimonides [the Rambam]. He made significant contributions to Jewish History.

Best wishes, Reply

Raymond West Hollywood May 27, 2026
in response to Rita Forbes:

Thank you for caring enough to mention it, and to answer your question, no i have not. I think i feel intimidated by the idea of reading, studying, and eventually mastering his magnus opus, which of course is his Mishna Torah. His other very famous work is of course his Guide for the Perplexed, a work that intimidates me because it makes all sorts of references to Aristotle and various Medieval philosophers and, well, I am not sure I have the sustained mental concentration necessary to even begin to understand it. Still, there are some shorter works of his worth reading that are far more accessible to common people like me, such as his Epistle to Yemen as well as his introduction to Pirkey Avot, both of which I have read but are definitely worth reviewing. Perhaps what i can do at this point in that regard is to study his Sefer HaMitzvot, which is his list and short explanations of the 613 Torah commandments Reply

In addition, Maimonides was born in 1138, not in 1135 as was previously believed, according to his own testimony. Reply

Amir Hamburg January 7, 2026

There is one question that is not accurate: Maimonides did not write most of his works in Arabic, but rather in Judeo-Arabic, which is, generally speaking, Arabic written in Hebrew letters. Reply

I learn from these quizzes! Reply

Baruch Hashem. Thank you for these quiz because I now have access to learn more about Maimonides. 6/11 😊 Reply
