Every Moment Is Precious

The mitzvah of counting the Omer is to count the days from Passover until Shavuos, when the Omer offering was brought in the Temple. Each day has a purpose. Whether it leads up to the Omer offering or it is an ordinary day of life, we must look at the clock, and ask ourselves, “Am I using my time properly, to fulfill my mission in this world?”

The Mitzvah of counting the Omer is to count the days from Passover until Shavuos, when the Omer offering was brought in the Temple.

This Mitzvah is puzzling, as we normally count things to determine if we have lost anything or whether we should add or subtract to what we have. The one thing in the world which a person cannot lose, add to or subtract from, is time. Why do we count something which we cannot control?

Each day has a purpose. Whether it leads up to the Omer offering or it is an ordinary day of life, we must look at the clock, and ask ourselves, “Am I using my time properly, to fulfill my mission in this world?”
