Shalom Rabbi , It is a great pleasure to receive these Israel quiz questions, I must mention l am a Goyem(?) a Gentile but l am all with Israel . Questions about tradition and feasts will be a challenge. But there is one good thing in all this, the questions I am presented with the more research I will have to do, the more l will learn. Shalom shalom, Avimelech , South Africa. Reply

A possible answer for question #2 answer says Issac was weaned at 3 years of age. What is the source for weaning at 3 years of age? Reply

Andrew Dublin December 9, 2024
in response to Hansen:

I believe that Isaac was weaned at the age of 2 years and then Abraham celebrated with a party.
Is this right? Reply

Hansen Asia December 9, 2024
in response to Andrew:

I'd like to know the typical age for weaning a child in those days, including a reference. Ishmael was observed "mocking" Issac on the day of the celebration. Sarah was so disturbed by what she observed, she ordered Ishmael banished from the camp, essentially a death sentence. The word translated as "mocking" in certain contexts [Joseph and Potiphar's wife, Gen. 39:14,17], is a reference to sexual activity, including rape.

Is it possible that Ishmael was abusing Issac in the field and was observed by Sarah? How old would Issac have been? Reply

Hansen Asia December 3, 2024

The answer to question number two says that Issac was the first to be circumcised at eight days. Abraham's household included more than 300 men. The command to circumcise Abraham and his household came about 10 years before Issac was born. Hard to believe that no children were born and circumcised during that ten year period. Reply

John London December 4, 2024
in response to Hansen:

The command came and the household were circumcised only about a year before Isaac was born, when, according to the Torah, Abraham was 99 years old and Ishmael 13. So isaac, born when abraham was 100, can't have been the first at all to be circumcised. But he can have been, and probably was the first to be circumcised at eight days. Reply

Hansen Asia December 5, 2024
in response to John:

You are right. I misread 99 for 90 years of age in Genesis 17:24. Thank you for pointing that out! Reply

ddot orlando December 5, 2024
in response to John:

Another thought is the first one of the immediate family. Reply

John London December 6, 2024
in response to ddot:

You must mean "first one of the immediate family to be circumcised on the eighth day". Because Abraham was circumcised earlier, and you can't get more immediate that him! Reply

If G-d named Yitzchak (laugh) then why was Sara corrected for "laughing"?
If Yitzchak was the first to be circumsized at 8 days, was Ishmael circumsized - and was he circumsized at 13 years? Reply

Avimelech Brian Melmoth Kwa Zulu Natal , South Africa November 29, 2024

Shalom , Where in Scripture is it recorded Issac was buried with his parents ? . His family was gathered ... as families do at funerals . Is this an indication he was buried ... with those gathered?
Just a question , that's all . Shalom SHALOM . Reply

Andrew Kieran Dublin, Ireland November 29, 2024
in response to Avimelech Brian Melmoth :

Hi Avimelech,
Good question.
The tomb at Hebron is known as the tomb of the married couples as
Abraham and Sarah were buried there, Israel and Leah were buried there and reputedly,
Adam and Eve were buried there.
I don't know of any biblical reference to Isaac being buried there.

9/10 he was buried by his two sons Jacob and Esau
because it was not mention where one has to assume
it was the cave of machpela in Hebron Reply

That is a fair assumption Herm, thank you. Reply

I scored an 8/10, which is the worst score I have gotten since I started taking these quizzes. The two I got wrong was who named Isaac, and who lusted after Sarah Reply

I expected to get 10/10, but got no. 1 wrong. The Almighty did indeed tell Abraham to name his son Isaac before Abraham gave him that name and Sarah talked about laughter. Reply
