Unbelievable. Unbelievable. I went to high school with Libby. She was the most beautiful dancer in our Jewish high school productions! And her mother was the most incredible advocate for her imaginable! At a time when disability was not celebrated, to put it mildly. But Libby was celebrated! Very popular, talented, incredible girl. I remember the hype when she got into the top seminary in Israel. She danced so beautifully by feeling the beats of the music. When she speaks, I see her mother's strength in her. I was a Marine in 89 who had recently become a single parent of two. The court said I had to remain in the state for 1 year before everything was finalized. The Corps refused to allow me to extend for 1yr, so I had to reenlist for 4. I suffered from serious hearing loss and was on remedial hearing for over a year. The Chief Petty Officer(CPO) who gave me the hearing exam during my physical exam got upset with me for pressing the button constantly instead of waiting for the tone. So he made me retest and I did the same thing. As I came out of the booth, he was angry, but I just smiled. After he pause to think a bit, he said "OK Sargent, I'll let you reenlist, but your the first person I've ever met who went from remedial hearing to supersonic hearing." I said thanks Chief. I went to my new command and my hearing was restored to normal. The power of the spoken word of a blessing. Our God is an awesome God. Reply

Despite the fact that I raised her, and think that I know her, Libbi never ceases to amaze me. I’m blown away by this interview. Such determination. Such strength. Such perseverance and persistence. Such spirit. I am so proud and grateful to be her mother. Reply

I am close to 70 years old and now have hearing problems too. Not so much in my hearing, but more in my ability to understand what is being said—kinda like a special form of aphasia. I usually, but not always, do not understand what is being said in your videos, and so I just must go by the synopsis and comments to guess what is being conveyed. Turning up the volume does not help that much. I can understand written text just fine, so it does not seem to be memory decline, like dementia. Most people would find it very frustrating, but I just shrug my shoulders, saying, “Oh well!” My guess is that Rebbetzin Libbi Kakon has had a similar attitude and frame of mind that has allowed her to thrive! My good thoughts and prayers are with her! Reply
