I converted in 1979 and have been welcomed in every Jewish community. My daughter was in preschool with Chabad in Seattle at the University of Washington. Every week I went to Chabad library and every week we had lively discussions with our Rabbi. Reply

Dear Rabbi Posner: Please consider tests on supernatural happenings in O.T. such as Moses and the serpents, crossing Jordan on dry land, and so much more. Also, secret signs or signals (such as Rahab's dangling red thread). Would be most interesting. Reply

Thank you Rabbi for the wonderful quizzes; I as a Jewish woman, I did not know anything about Judaism growing up. My parents were Jewish, but did not practice. When I was around 32 years old, I wanted to know about our Religion. I volunteered at the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and I started realized how important was to be a Jew . I knew some things about being Jewish, but i wanted to learn. I found out at the University of Judaism (former name), there was a Conversion Classes. So I took the classes. When it came time for the Mikvah the Beth Din, I told the Rabbi I could not do this. He wanted to know why, I told him I was all ready Jewish. He gave me the biggest smile and welcome me to the fold. He invited me to the Synagogue for Shabbat there I met his family. I have been practicing as much as possible. This all happened 44 years ago I live now in assistant living. I am glad I did what I did. Reply

If G-d made us the way we are supposed to be, each uniquely equipped for their own mission, and G-d created some of us as gentiles, or even if we chose Kabbalistically to be gentiles, and gentiles are welcomed and even have a special place if they choose to live among Jews, or are chosen to do so, why is there even a process to convert? I'm not understanding this. Reply

Angelica Olvera Puebla Mexico February 8, 2023

Shalom! I really wish with all my soul to convert, unfortunatelly here in Puebla Mexico is not possible, I follow Torah lessons on youtube with Rab's here in Mexico.

I look forward to these quizzes every week Reply

Tuvya San Diego February 6, 2023

I went through this myself but didn't know about Onkelos or temple sacrifice for converts. I did do a ton of learning, thinking, and discussing, and I even had a list of 100 factual questions to be prepared to answer before the Beth Din, and when I got there, none were asked. My rabbis have really shifted away from converts just knowing how to be Jewish to actually doing it. It's all about Kashrut, keeping Shabbat, and engaging with your community -- daily life. Learning never ends anyway. Becoming a Jew is not a final step but a first step to the rest of your life. Reply

Georgi Bulgaria February 6, 2023

Greetings from Bulgaria I asked to be converted , but you have to be a part of jewish community, which is impossible in my case , and nearest synagogue is 40miles from the town I live. Anyway Hashem( blessed be He) knows my heart and I am trying to do my best ( learning from Your daily study and Rebbe' s books) how to be closer to Him. I believe , that everything will be Ok in the World to come. Reply

Rita Forbes Clinton February 6, 2023
in response to Georgi:

🌻Good Morning🌻 Georgi

I feel the sincerity of your heart. This is my suggestion after reading about the conversion process. You can always Ask a Rabbi @ Chabad.org.
Contact the Rabbi in that town and discuss your desire[s] and situation dilemma. You never know what the results will be! He will know how to get you connected. It may be through online social media, zoom classes, and once a month in person meetings. 40 miles [35-40 minute drive] is only far in respect to observing Shabbat guideline observances.
Because of the COVID pandemic, learning has become more creative in community outreach. Move forward and take that step and get the guidance you need to realize your dream[s] to become a Jewish convert. Maybe the next time I read a comment by you, it'll be on the joys of becoming a Jew.

Best wishes!

Well said, you took the words out of my mouth of what I try to do, and because HaShem knows my heart and thoughts too, all I can do is to "keep on keep'n on"! And pray for His Moshiach to come for His people and children now!

in response to Georgi:

Part of the conversion process is that you have to take on the mitzvahs, many of which for a male mans being near a community to pray with a minyan. Also, how will you get kosher food and wine? It is easy in the US to get it by UPS delivery but can you get it in Bulgaria? Do you have or plan to have children? Where will they go to school to get a Jewish education? P.S. It is not easy being Jewish. A community makes it easier many times. Reply

Greetings Hana. Two years ago I found out, that my grand grand father( from my father side) was one of the saved by
the bulgarian government jews , during WW2. Even now I am trying to find my relatives in Israel. It is really hard, but I don't give up. My family kept it in secret because they are communist, and for them that was a shame. Now I am 44 years old. My wife is the greatest gift from G- d in my life. We have 4 kids( Samuel, Maya,Antony, and Elizabeth).
We are strict vegetarians and for the wine, yes I can order it, but I don't drink at all, and prefer grape juice.
As we were thought in the Church, the "Law of Mouses" is something very scary, so as a Christian I had to stay away of it. I am so grateful for Chabad, because I learned so much about Halacha. Now I realise , that The Law is not just to keep commandments, but to seek my Father by following His directions, which is The Law.
To be a part of jewish community is like to be a part of living organism. I do understand. Reply

Hana Truth or Consequences February 9, 2023
in response to Georgi:

Georgi, maybe your situation will change at some point and you can move your family closer to a community. Where I live there is no Jewish community, although there are Jews. I have lived in Jewish communities in the past. One cannot fit into just any Jewish community beyond a certain point. So even if you do convert and find yourself in a community some day you may not feel happy or at home with it. People are only people and how they act may disillusion you. You have to learn Torah and pay attention to what it is really saying, not to what other people tell you it is saying. I think it would be good to be with a community for a while, kind of like basic training in the Army. Then if later you are not with a community you can have a firm basis of what to do no matter where you are or who you are with. Reply

This would be even better with information on getting a Jewish conversion Reply

Tuvya San Diego February 6, 2023
in response to unnamed:

Jewish conversion is a long process that can't easily be standardized in a brochure. Start with a conversation with a local Rabbi about how to learn and experience being Jewish before even addressing the issue of conversion. There's no rush, take your time. It's not like getting a college degree, it's about becoming the human being you were meant to be.
In general though, you can expect to be required to take a series of courses on Jewish religion, history, holidays, simchas, and other life cycle events, learn and observe Kashrut, show genuine interest and curiosity, ask a lot of questions, have many private conversations with your Rabbi, probably read a number of books in your free time, attend shul regularly to become familiar with shacharit and meet the community, possibly decide to learn how to read biblical Hebrew, have the Rabbi meet your spouse, and when you're finally ready, talk to the Beth Din for approval, complete circumcision, and say three prayers. Start slowly. Reply
