Não esqueci do aprendizado Judaico da alimentação do Shabat, no teste fiquei 8/10 Reply

Janet Clare Ma'ale Levona February 19, 2023

9/10 I missed Q-1 too and also looked for an explanation. I understood it to mean it's OK to taste food you're cooking for Shabbat (but try not to eat too much during the day on Friday so that you are really looking forward to the Sabbath meal.). However, I think it was talking about eating the first Sabbath meal on Friday night. Reply

Axel Berger Köln-Ossendorf February 20, 2023
in response to Janet Clare:

Yes, I was musing about the exact meaning too and came to the same conclusion as you. What I remembered was that you can eat Mazzot all year round but ought not to during the day of Erev Pessach (if I remember correctly). Reply

Janet Clare Ma'ale Levona February 23, 2023
in response to Axel Berger:

Yes. Some, like Chabad, have the custom of not eating Matza during the 30 days before Pessach. Reply

Axel Berger Köln-Ossendorf February 18, 2023

I found this one rather hard. Question 1, one of the four I had wrong, lacks an explanation. Reply

Indeed. I hope to get an article out about this. Reply

Noticeable was the reference to what Morrocan and Ashkenaz Jews do, without any quiz questions referencing behaviors that emphasize Jewish unity. Correct me if I'm somehow wrong, but isn't Jewish unity a more important mitzvah than preserving minhageen. Why? While the latter may indeed delight the heart and serve as important celebrations of local achievements, the former bring to mind Mt. Sinai and Moshe and the covenant --all of which call us to be diligent in our study of the Torah.
Clearly, tradition has it's rightful place in the preservation of Israel, and the vibrant Jewish family, in particular.
However, let us not allow the Yitzon Horah to falsely tell us that cultural traditions are somehow more important than preserving human life--avoiding toxins, regular exercise and lowering weight (salt & sugar) as well as getting enough rest, are the less popular Mitzvot of the modern physical world. Nevertheless, they're pre-requisites to all Mitzvot esp.Torah Study Reply
