Rabbi maybe you can answer these questions: We are said to get details about the conversion process from the story of Ruth, ie., Naomi turned Ruth away three times so we turn a convert away three times. This infers that Ruth is not yet a convert when she later follows Naomi. If so, how could she have been considered the wife of Naomi's Jewish son whom she married at least 10 years prior to this? If she was not Jewish, how was she considered married to the son? If she was not married to the son, how could Boaz later be described by Naomi (Ruth 2:20) "The man is nigh kin unto us, one of our near kinsmen." And later (Ruth 3:2) “And now is there not Boaz our kinsman..”A convert is supposed to be like a new born person, so if Ruth was a new convert how could Boaz be considered Ruth’s kin? Yet Boaz takes Ruth later as his wife in what is described as a form of leverite marriage and there is the whole debate of anyone being allowed to marry her because she is a female Moabite, which brings ou Reply

Another great quiz but Rabbi if a convert is now a Jew then why do we call them a Ger tzadik which as you said is a righteous resident. They are Jews. Plain and simple. Righteous residents were not Jews in the Torah. They were non Jews that lived by our customs but never converted. So why make a separate distinction for a new Jew when they are simple this… a JEW. It’s seems like we are trying to call attention to their origin. Which we do believe that they were Jewish anyway so this classification is unnecessary and this calls them out which is what we are commanded not to do. Make it make sense. Again, great quizzes! I converted in 1979 and have been welcomed in every Jewish community. My daughter was in preschool with Chabad in Seattle at the University of Washington. Every week I went to Chabad library and every week we had lively discussions with our Rabbi. Reply

Dear Rabbi Posner: Please consider tests on supernatural happenings in O.T. such as Moses and the serpents, crossing Jordan on dry land, and so much more. Also, secret signs or signals (such as Rahab's dangling red thread). Would be most interesting. Reply

Thank you Rabbi for the wonderful quizzes; I as a Jewish woman, I did not know anything about Judaism growing up. My parents were Jewish, but did not practice. When I was around 32 years old, I wanted to know about our Religion. I volunteered at the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and I started realized how important was to be a Jew . I knew some things about being Jewish, but i wanted to learn. I found out at the University of Judaism (former name), there was a Conversion Classes. So I took the classes. When it came time for the Mikvah the Beth Din, I told the Rabbi I could not do this. He wanted to know why, I told him I was all ready Jewish. He gave me the biggest smile and welcome me to the fold. He invited me to the Synagogue for Shabbat there I met his family. I have been practicing as much as possible. This all happened 44 years ago I live now in assistant living. I am glad I did what I did. Reply

If G-d made us the way we are supposed to be, each uniquely equipped for their own mission, and G-d created some of us as gentiles, or even if we chose Kabbalistically to be gentiles, and gentiles are welcomed and even have a special place if they choose to live among Jews, or are chosen to do so, why is there even a process to convert? I'm not understanding this. Reply
