Material Benefits of Having Trust

Up until this point, the author has been listing the Torah advantages of bitachon. In the remainder of his introduction he will discuss the advantages that bitachon brings to a person in his materialistic pursuits:

The benefits of bitachon in worldly matters are as follows:

Stress Free

Among them is the peace of mind from the worries of the world, and tranquility from the nagging of the spirit and its pain, which is due to the person’s lack of obtaining his physical desires.

A person who does not have bitachon is never at peace, because he always feels that he is lacking.

But a person who has bitachon is at rest, feels secure, and is at peace in this world, as it is written (Jeremiah 17:7): Blessed is the man who trusts in the L-rd; the L-rd shall be his trust . And as the following verse says (ibid. 8): For he shall be like a tree planted by the water, and by a rivulet spreads its roots.

These verses are cited as proof that a person who has bitachon is at peace and is neither afraid nor worried even when “bad” befalls him, because he knows he is being taken care of.
