13/14 Pretty,pretty,pretty good! Reply

8/14, not bad considering that I am a non Jew and know nothing about Judaism, my first two answers were based on Islamic teachings that seem to align with Judaism. I also knew about 1492 as the date on which the last Muslim moors were expelled from Spain, I read that the Islamic rule in Spain was an era of great Muslim Jewish co operation and friendship, when it ended with the reconquista Muslims and Jews were both expelled or murdered. Rock-eating praying mantises--oy vey! Reply

Good Morning, FY

Your comment stoked my curiosity about the rock-eating praying mantises. FYI, unless you already know, they rock or sway to blend into their environment, to hide from prey, to disorient their prey, or to hunt. Pretty cool, uh?

You Rock
Praying Mantis!

13/14. I got 9 wrong Reply

Colin Gilman Forest Hills, Queens, New York City June 24, 2023

Ok, so Moses was angry. My question is --Is it not more pios and Torah-obedient to maintain control of one's animal soul/emotions? Perhaps Moshe could have prayed to Hashem first? For me, throwing the tablets down (and breaking them!) is a very extreme expression and a seemingly permanent action, that could be misunderstood --1) like Moshe rejected them in front of Hashem. 2) an act of arrogance in which Moshe sees himself the authority over the Mitzvot / Covenant, when in reality it is Hashem and the entire Jewish people who enjoy the agreement. In fact, 3) throwing them down was an act of Immodesty and 4) a bad example as it was not Moshe's authority to decide the fate of the Covenant's symbols. It just seems like Moshe could have been more patient and done a better job of not being immodest or setting the bad example. Israel, consider the importance of entering the Promised Land. You may now think hard about why he refused Hashem's instruction to speak to the rock for water. Reply

Deborah Greene South Africa June 26, 2023
in response to Colin Gilman:

Hi Collin, I don't think Moshe was arrogant and short tempered...it's because the Benei Yisrael were worshipping the golden calf just after HASHEM has just brought them out of Misrayim and in all honesty showed No appreciation for HASHEM who saved them from their enemies instead practice and worshipped the gods of Egypt....imagine saying to the golden calf...you are the God who brought us out of Egypt!!!??? Yet they've just sang Micha Mocha...but straight after that they changed their tune.... Reply

10/14 So I struggled with the last 6 or so questions! but I am still happy with the score! for a none-Jewish person! I thought I personally knew nothing about Jewish history! so I was a bit hesitant to even start the quiz! but once I started I realized I knew more about Jewish history than I think! Thank you so much Rabbi Posner! For putting these quizzes together! It is such a wonderful learning tool! Not just for the Jews! but even for a Gentile! to learn so much more about my Jewish extended family under G-d! With that said please keep them coming! G-d bless you and your family! Happy Shabbat! (Shabbat Shalom). Reply

Shulamit שולמית Saeger סייגר USA June 23, 2023

Ok that was very easy. However, I think there could be some discussion about why Moses destroyed the two Tablets. Reply

Erika Germany June 23, 2023

Is there a specific book I could read about Jewish History that you would recommend?? Your quizzes are sooo good, helpful and inspiring - Erika Reply
