It was almost 5 o’clock in the morning when I retired to bed after the farbrengen. I did not attend the earliest minyan for shacharis, so it was quite late by the time I davened. (Chatting to friends beforehand also took time….) In the event, it was well past noon when we learned that the Rebbe would be arriving shortly for kriyas hatorah.

I was asked to be one of the gaboim – a great honor – but, it was also emphasized to me that all I was to do was stand by the bimah, look nice and decorative, but say nothing! I did just that. I did not know exactly what time it was by then, but Avrohom happened to take a photograph of me waiting for the Rebbe. The clearly visible clock on the wall shows 12:43 (Maybe someone was playing a joke on me… or perhaps that was the correct time.)

I received an aliyah on this occasion and Avrohom was honored with hagbah. The Rebbe, of course, was called up third with the familiar incantation; “Yaamod: Adoneinu, Moreinu, VeRabbeinu Ben HaRav Reb Levi Yitzchok. [Arise, Our Master, Teacher, and Rebbe, the son of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok.]”
