11 questions were asked ,and i did substantially well. Yet, I have a question about one of the questions: Rabbi Posner , your quiz says that H' gave Moshe Rabbeinu 70 people to deal with all the questions -instead of him alone. Indeed that was onerous, but if I remember well: it was his father in law who suggested that solution to Moshe. Surely, H' is involved but the pasuk says Yithro was the one involved in the idea of establishing helpers to deal with am Israel. Please explain, Thank you. Reply

Yitro advised Moshe to select capable men to judge on lesser matters, and Moshe did so. One might say that H' inspired hiss choices! Reply

Apparently, Yitro's advice was so good, that Moshe instantly implemented the plan and it was noteworthy enough to find a place in our Torah. This is not a perfect analogy, but the Rambam thought so highly of another non-Jew, namely Aristotle, that he (the Rambam) based his commentary of the Pirkei Avot on the ideas of Aristotle Reply

I think these are two completely different systems. The number of the 70 elders is not predicated on the growth or the original number of those needing judicial decisions to actual questions. The 70 elderrs are the Torah law and governance system for the whole nation with or without taking groups of thousands, hundreds, tens etc within the popuoation. They don't preside over two parties which want their private matter judged.. The 70 elders are set up to judge the overall underswtanding of the Torah as the times change political, natural, psyochological and attitudinal waves of movement. They are more like the "lawmakers" of the government, then you have also a judicial system which uses three judges to decide an opinion the question of two private parties. Yitro's suggestion was for pirvate decisions regarding two parties seeking the truth in courts set up throughout the camp. to see more on this read the first chapter of Ethics of the Fathers. Dear Rabbi,
I scored 11/11 on this quiz. I’m not bragging about it; I’m happy it took me three years to stick with studying the Torah to achieve a perfect score. Thank you G-d for believing in me and supporting me through discovery of the true You in your Torah; especially since I am non-Jewish.

Deborah, have you made acquaintance with the Bnei Noach Movement. Hashem gave all people 7 laws after the flood. This narrative is brought into tthe Torah to introduce Hashem's plan for non-Jews. They have a comprehensive web site which gives guidance for those who find themselves interested in their role as non-Jews in the Divine plan. You wouldn't be the first to enjoy discoverring them if you have not already. Wishing you oodles of success! Reply
